DocuSeal
The lightest self-hosted option — running in about ten minutes.
DocuSeal is a deliberately small signing platform: a PDF form builder, multiple signers, an audit log and an API, deployable with a single Docker command. AGPL-3.0. It does less than Documenso and does it with less setup, which for a small company sending a handful of contracts a month is exactly the right trade. If the reason you have not left DocuSign is that self-hosting sounds like a project, this is the entry that argues otherwise.
What it does well
- +Fastest self-hosted signing to stand up — roughly ten minutes
- +Clean PDF form builder
- +Self-hosted with no envelope limits
- +Very light resource footprint
Where it falls short
- −Fewer features than Documenso
- −Some capabilities reserved for the paid pro tier
- −Small community
- −Less detail published about signing internals
