Dropbox Sign
The straightforward commercial alternative, at roughly half the price.
Dropbox Sign, formerly HelloSign, does the ordinary signing job well at about $20 per user per month against DocuSign Standard's $45, with a clean interface and a genuinely good API that developers tend to prefer. Listed because a great many companies evaluating DocuSign do not want to run a server — for them the real choice is between commercial vendors, and pretending self-hosting is always the answer would not serve the reader. It is proprietary and hosted, with fewer enterprise routing features than DocuSign.
What it does well
- +Roughly half DocuSign's per-seat price
- +Clean, well-regarded API for embedding signing in a product
- +Simpler interface with less training required
- +Integrates naturally with Dropbox storage
Where it falls short
- −Proprietary and hosted — contracts sit with the vendor
- −Fewer enterprise routing and compliance features than DocuSign
- −Still per-seat with envelope considerations
- −Smaller integration ecosystem
