Plausible + your own enrichment
The honest self-hosted answer: analytics you own, identification you do not.
There is no open-source visitor-identification tool, and the reason is structural rather than incidental — the product is an IP-to-company database maintained commercially, not an algorithm anyone can reimplement. What you can own is the analytics layer underneath. Plausible is AGPL-3.0, self-hostable, cookieless and GDPR-friendly, and it will tell you what people did on your site without sending any of it to a third party. Pair it with manual enrichment on the accounts that matter and you have most of the value with none of the privacy exposure. Listed to be straight about where the line is: this is the only entry on the page you can actually run yourself, and it deliberately does less.
What it does well
- +The only option here you can actually run on your own infrastructure
- +AGPL-3.0, cookieless, no consent banner needed in most jurisdictions
- +No visitor data leaves your servers — the privacy question disappears
- +Roughly 1 KB script; measurably faster than the tracking-heavy alternatives
Where it falls short
- −Does not identify visitors — this is the trade, stated plainly
- −No enrichment, scoring or personalisation
- −You supply the server and the maintenance
- −Not a replacement if pipeline generation is the actual requirement
